Coming from a farming background in Mildura, Victoria, where her father grew citrus and mother had a fine garden, Jane has always had a passionate interest in plants and how to grow them. Over the years she has worked in nurseries where she has gained an all round general knowledge of gardeners and their needs.
Jane has been a Victorian presenter for the ABC’s Gardening Australia for over 20 years. She writes for the Gardening Australia Magazine and other publications. She broadcasts on radio 3AW’s Big Backyard and for over 20 years on the radio has answered more lemon tree questions than you would care to count. She has given hundreds of talks to garden clubs, schools and motivational events.
With this background her role today is one of inspiring communities and individuals to raise the awareness of the benefits of gardening to all and sundry. As an ambassador she supports the Horticultural Therapy Association, Sustainable Gardening Australia, Victorian School’s Garden Awards and the Royal Horticultural Society Victoria. She received an Order of Australia for her services to Horticulture and Education.
Her finger nails are often dirty, and at times her knees ache but she really enjoys getting out into her own garden to weed, plant a vegetable or two and to “stop and smell the roses”.
Graham Ross is a respected horticulturist, whose 45 year career has spanned teaching, television, radio and publishing. He has presented gardening shows on Australian television for 35 years, broadcast radio for 30 and managed his Garden Clinic company for 40 years. He loves his Sydney vegie patch of 28 years.
Sandra Ross is also a horticulturist, garden writer, teacher and broadcaster. As director of Ross Garden Tours she travels widely, searching out great gardens for garden itineraries around the globe. Her love of gardening infects all she does; her writing and her operation of the Garden Clinic Club. Sandra is a fervent rose and perennial grower.
Linda Ross is a widely travelled garden writer and broadcaster. Having studied landscape architecture and horticulture, she achieved the Young Achiever of the Year award from the Horticultural Media Association of Australia in 2007. She is particularly interested in organic vegetable gardening and teaches monthly kitchen gardening classes at Glenmore House in Camden. Linda loves her wildflower garden on NSW’s central coast.
Linda, Sandra and Graham Ross are passionate gardeners. From the Ground Up is the culmination of their lifetimes of gardening information that is passed from their family to yours; to help make you a more successful gardener.
For those new to gardening this book offers simple clear advice to get you started and keep you encouraged. For garden enthusiasts with lots of experience, there is information here to keep you updated with the latest organic methods of gardening, good for you and for our planet.
